Part 3 | Heart Openers & Backbends
Heart Openers & Backbends on Valentine’s Day!
(Unique, special date night idea; still time to go out for dinner after!)
The main focus of this workshop will be on opening the front body and back bending. To achieve this, we will explore exercises that open the shoulders, pectorals, and lower abdominals as well as lengthening and strengthening the spine. Taking heart openers into stretches for splits increases our ability to open our hips. Depending on your level, you may be able to combine your backbends into your splits or split exercises.
Part 4 | Hip Openers
This workshop will explore different asanas that help align the hips to gain flexibility and mobility. The alignment of our hips is frequently over-looked. The lack of symmetry in our bodies and why we to overcompensate on one side versus the other can often be resolved with paying attention to squaring of the hips. This workshop will introduce many variations of hip openers that are accessible to different body types and it will also offer some advanced progressions building on the previous classes.
Part 5 | Core Strength & Balances
Part 5: Core Strength and Balances
We will perform conditioning exercises to strengthen the core and wake up the abdominal muscles used in balances. We will begin with one of the most basic balances, bakasana crow and work on other balances, drawing from asanas worked on in previous workshops. We will build on poses such as your split and pigeon pose to find your flying split and flying pigeon. This is where we will try to take flight in some of the poses we have learned combining strength and flexibility to achieve that squareness required for balance.

Friday January 31 | 6:00-7:30 pm
Don't be intimidated by the word splits! You do not need to be able to do the splits or learn how to do the splits in this class. You will be introduced to exercises that will help you work towards achieving a split and variations for ALL skill levels will be available. Proper implementation of Surya Namaskar A and B will be relevant while exploring more exercises that lengthen the calves and hamstrings.
Part 1 | Chaturanga & Yoga Foundations Workshop
The primary focus of this class will be on how to correctly do a Chaturanga, also known as a yoga push-up or a tricep push-up. We will work on the variation/modification that is appropriate for your skill level and learn how to work your way up to a full Chaturanga, moving smoothly through Surya Namaskar A and B. (Sun Salutations A and B)
